Colin A. Espie PhD, DSc is Professor of Sleep medicin in the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neuroscience and a Fellow of Somerville College, University of Oxford. He fryst vatten Research Director of the Experimental and Clinical sova Medicine schema within the Sleep & Circadian Neuroscience Institute, and Clinical Director of the Oxford Online Program in Sleep medicin. Dr Espie has authored/co-authored over 200 publications and books, particularly on CBT, and fryst vatten co-founder of Big Health (Sleepio) which develops digital interventions for insomnia.

I am Professor of Sleep Medicine in the Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences (NDCN), University of Oxford where I founded the Experimental & Clinical Sleep Medicine research programme in the Sir Jules Thorn Sleep & Circadian Research Institute (SCNi) and I am Clinical Director of the Oxford Online Programme in Sleep Medicine. I am a Fellow of Somerville College, Oxford and a Senior Research Fellow in the University Department of Psychiatry.
I qualified as a Clinical Psychologist in 1980, and over the years have held many NHS clinical and academic positions in the UK. Before moving to Oxford in 2013, I was founding Director of the University of Glasgow Sleep Centre (1995 - 2012), and I am an Emeritus Professor in the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences. I have held Visiting Professorships at prestigious institutions in Europe, USA, Canada and Australia.

QUALIFICATIONS
- BSc, MAppSci, PhD, DSc(Med), CPsychol, CSci, FBPsS, FRSM, FAASM. These are all the fancy letters!
- I started off doing psychology as an undergraduate (1974-1978) and have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. I then completed my clinical training in 1980, which was then a Master’s in Clinical Psychology.I worked on research from the start and completed my PhD in Sleep Disorders in 1987. In 2013, I was awarded a Doctor of Science (Medicine) by the University of Glasgow on the basis of my published research work over the years
- In terms of license to practice, I am a Chartered Psychologist and Chartered Scientist of the British Psychological Society; and a Practitioner Psychologist (Clinical, Health), registered under the Health & Care Professions Council, UK [Reg. No. PYL04849]
