Thích Nhất Hạnh (TIK NAHT HAHN; Vietnamese:[tʰǐk̟ɲə̌thâjŋ̟ˀ]ⓘ, Huế dialect: [tʰɨt̚˦˧˥ɲək̚˦˧˥hɛɲ˨˩ʔ]; born Nguyễn Xuân Bảo; 11 October – 22 January ) was a Vietnamese Thiền Buddhist monk, peace activist, prolific author, poet and teacher,[2] who founded the Plum Village Tradition, historically recognized as the main inspiration for engagerad Buddhism.[3] Known as the "father of mindfulness",[4] Nhất Hạnh was a major influence on Western practices of Buddhism.[2]

Hanh was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother. Raising her children was her priority, and she was highly involved in raising all her grandchildren, as well. Hanh was a highly respected and very loved family matriarch. Hanh was an avid gardener and was known for her “green thumb”. She could grow anything from flowers to fruit trees. She was also well known for being a talented cook. Her Vietnamese food was famous in her family. Hanh was preceded in death by her parents, Cao Huu Phien and Nguyen Thi Su; brother, Cao Huu Phuc.
