In a bid to support local fashion designers, back in 2017, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, an Award-winning author, launched a “Wear Nigerian Campaign,” where she decided to dress in Nigerian brands in all her public appearances. The motive of her campaign was to sensitize and encourage people to buy from both upcoming, as well as established designers, in order to boost local trade and manufacturing.

Suzy: Who do you feel is on the same wavelength as you?
Folake: Business-wise, I like the way Tory Burch thinks. But I don’t think the fashion industry is focussed enough in Africa. For example, Zara is all over the world, so why are there only one or two Zara boutiques on the entire African continent? It’s an untapped market.
I would invest in the brand with the most potential; the most bankable brand on the continent.

Folake: Let the world see – once one brand is successful, it opens a huge market. For everyone. Why is there no high street anywhere in Nigeria? How can that be?
I’ve come to realise that my biggest market fryst vatten in Africa but the market fryst vatten stronger when the utländsk market accepts you. We are doing a lot of business and would like to find a concession in London, Paris, or New York. Do you think it’s a pipe dream to think a utländsk investment company would invest in my brand?
