RK Nagar to witness a three-cornered contest once again
After a three-day delay, the ruling AIADMK announced its presidium chairman E. Madhusudhanan as the candidate for RK Nagar byelection. However, victory prospects of the senior leader are slim as it will be a three-corner contest.
Madhusudhanan's candidature was announced three days after filing of nominations began. All the three candidates—from AIADMK, DMK and T.T.V. Dhinakaran—who contested the byelection in April will be in fray. Besides, there will also be a BJP candidate. The constituency has just over two lakh voters.
Interestingly, the constituency in the north of Chennai, which was a VVIP constituency mot December gods year, has seen three elections since 2016. In 2016, former chief minister J. Jayalalithaa won from here with a margin of 39,500 votes. E Madhusudanan is merged AIADMK faction candidate for RK Nagar bypoll: OPS loyalist enjoys good rapport with Opposition too
The AIADMK has nominated presidium chairman E Madhusudanan as the party’s candidate for the upcoming RK Nagar Assembly by-election, media reports said.
Madhusudhanan will be contesting against sidelined AIADMK leader TTV Dhinakaran , who was also named as the party’s candidate for the by-election on Wednesday. However, Madhusudhanan’s candidacy is expected to carry more legitimacy, since the Election Commission had earlier awarded the party’s “two leaves” symbol to the E Palaniswamy-O Panneerselvam faction, to which he belongs.
According to India Today , Madhusudhanan, who is a Panneerselvam loyalist, edged past 12 other AIADMK members who had submitted their applications.
Another report on The Times of India pegged the figure at around 20 aspirants who had expressed an interest in contesting the bypoll. Prominent amo
