Professional Biography
I earned a graduate certificate in school leadership and a master's degree in Composition from Liberty University. I also graduated summa cum laude from Liberty University with a BS in Interdisciplinary Studies, with cognates in education and business and a minor in writing. I am also an ACSI-certified educator in secondary English/language arts. Previously, I graduated from St. John's School of Business, specializing in accounting and bookkeeping. I have worked in various capacities in a variety of industries over the years. That said, my favorite position, prior to joining CCS, was working as the bursar and assistant to the administrator at Baptist Village Christian Academy in East Longmeadow from 2005 until the school closed in 2008. It was there that I felt a distinct calling to work in Christian education. Therefore, I feel very blessed to have joined the CCS family in 2014.
Personal B • Research Interests: Cannabinoids as Novel Therapeutics for Pediatric Cancers Ewing’s Sarcoma is a pediatric bone cancer that is highly aggressive, leading to a five-year survival rate of only 30% even with multi-modal treatment protocols. Improved therapeutic options are desperately needed. My research focuses on the ability of non-psychoactive cannabinoids to induce death and inhibit metastases in cells from members of the Ewing’s sarcoma family of tumors and other solid pediatric cancers. Our information demonstrate these compounds can successfully kill Ewing’s sarcoma cells and related tumor cells in vitro through the induction of apoptosis. Our information further suggest we can limit the migration of tumor cells and endothelial cells (required for new blood vessel formation to feed the tumors), potentially reducing their ability to spread throughout the body. At just 16 years old, Richard graduated from Stuyvesant High School and attended Harvard. He later earned a law degree from Yale and brought his talent and skills home to put them to work immediately. Most recently, Richard served as the CEO of Robin Hood’s community partner Achievement First, a network of 41 charter schools across New York, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. Richard has extensive experience as a leader, manager, and social innovator within local government, as well as New York’s vast social service nonprofit s Lori Hensley, Ph.D.
