In December of 2011, a number of events took place across the Moscow region of Russia and in Vilnius, Lithuania to honor the life and career of 20th century’s renowned artist and educator, Timofei Dokshizer. The following is an excerpt taken from a forward written by one of Dokshizer’s students, professor of trumpet at the Gnesins Russian Academy of Music, Vyacheslav Prokopov.
“Late last Fall, the musicians’ community of Russia widely marked what would have been the 90th Birthday of a distinguished artist of the 20th century, Timofei Dokshizer. Although his birthday is on December 13th, the anniversary events began in November and lasted through the end of December. Timofei Dokshizer would often say, “I’m a musician, and my purpose on Earth is to bring people happiness.” He enjoyed a long and fulfilling career, and a happy life.
