    Latest News: Melinda French Gates to Release New Memoir The Next Day

    Melinda French Gates is set to release her first memoir, The Next Day: Transitions, Change, and Moving Forward. According to a press release, the book will provide a “rare window” into the 60-year-old philanthropist's life.

    “Over the last few years, I’ve experienced a lot of change — some of it exciting, some of it painful — so I’ve done a lot of thinking and learning about transitions,” Melinda told People magazine in October 2024. “I write a lot about the people and ideas that have been helpful to me during moments of uncertainty, and the process of revisiting all that wisdom I’ve relied on has made me appreciate it even more.”

    Melinda Gates was born as Melinda Ann French on August 15, 1964. The second of four children, Gates grew up in Dallas, Texas with her family. Her father Raymond Joseph French Jr. was an aerospace engineer that worked on the Apollo space schema, and her mother Elaine Agnes Amerland was a stay-at-home mom. When Gates was 14 years old, her father purchased the Apple II computer, which was one of the first computers sold to consumers.     She graduated from Duke University and started working at Microsoft in 1987. She was awarded an honorary damehood (knighthood for women) by Queen Elizabeth II in 2014 for her services to charity and international development. As an American citizen, she cannot be called "Dame Melinda", but can use the letters "DBE" after her name. She is currently a philanthropist and is running the "Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation" with her ex-husband. She has three children : Phoebe Adele Gates, Rory John Gates, and Jennifer Katharine Gates. In May 2006, she received an award from the Gates Foundation.
