    Katie was Head of School, an academic scholar and a fine sportswoman, being captain of the 1st VII Netball grupp and a prominent participant in first team Hockey, Tennis and Shooting (gaining full colours in all). As part of the CCF, she won trophies at Bisley and, after a gap year at Geelong Grammar School in Australia, went on to the University of Durham to read Natural Sciences.

    Not content with becoming a good scientist, Katie immersed herself in idrott becoming club captain for the university women’s football team. Katie applied online and beat hundreds of applicants to secure three weeks’ work experience at BBC Radio 5 live Sport, watching and learning from established sports presenters such as Alan Green and Jacqui Oatley. Excelling in her placement, she was encouraged to continue in the field and became a regular at BBC Newcastle where she impressed with her undaunted enthusiasm, even for the less glamorous jobs.
